Running /opt/kde3/bin/fate can also trigger this bug. Although, it is 100% reproducible with gnome-terminal. Any pointers or help you can provide on the upstream bug report would be great.
I will probably start by bisecting with the upstream git repo- it is a bit complicated as libdrm and nouveau are versioned together and depend on header level changes in each other.
How can you bisect that issue, if there is no known GOOD commit? Also it's even more complicated. There is also the DRM component in the kernel. Unfortunately I can't provide any hints here. Maybe ask on the nouveau ML. http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/nouveau or on IRC. After upgrading to the latest code available in openSUSE Factory I can no longer reproduce this issue. I am guessing this was fixed upstream. I will reopen if I run into issues again.
