[Bug 582018] New: Automatic system update disables Atheros ath5k wireless network card
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=582018 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=582018#c0 Summary: Automatic system update disables Atheros ath5k wireless network card Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: 1.bugs.binny@googlemail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091222 SUSE/3.5.7-1.1.1 Firefox/3.5.7 After allowing reccommended updates to be installed, my Acer Aspire 5610z behaves as if it has no wireless card. iwconfig fails to return "ath0" wireless network device. dmesg reports [ 0.278433] pci 0000:06:02.0: reg 10 32bit mmio: [0xd0000000-0xd000ffff] [ 9.801332] ath5k 0000:06:02.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002) [ 9.801352] ath5k 0000:06:02.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22 [ 9.801456] ath5k 0000:06:02.0: registered as 'phy0' [ 10.286830] ath5k 0000:06:02.0: PCI INT A disabled [ 10.286852] ath5k: probe of 0000:06:02.0 failed with error -5 ..so the kernel appears to have some problem communicating with the card. Regressing the system to 11.2 base install (thus removing the latest updates) solves the problem and allows wireless to work normally again. Others have reported the same problem here: http://forums.opensuse.org/network-internet/wireless/432686-wireless-stopped... but I couldn't find a bug report. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Allow openSUSE to install latest updates 2. 3. Actual Results: Wireless card disabled, invisible to iwconfig, NetworkManager, etc. Expected Results: Updated system, wireless still working -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
