And Microsoft TrueType Fonts cannot be installed. The package "pullin-msttf-fonts - Placeholder for MS True Type Fonts" does nothing when it is installed/reinstalled.
Is unrelated, BUT: $> cat /usr/share/doc/packages/pullin-msttf-fonts/README This README is the only content of this package. The only use of this package is to trigger an online update that pulls in the real package for installing the Microsoft True Type Fonts. I've just checked with KDE Font Installer (as root), and all the fonts seem to be there, including the MS fonts (I can't tell if those fonts are the one I had under openSUSE 11.1 before upgrading or if fetchmsttfonts has re-installed the MS fonts).
To check this, I removed the 'fetchmsttfonts' and 'pullin-msttf-fonts' packages, and now, the MS fonts are gone from /usr/share/fonts/truetype So the font were in fact added by fetchmsttfonts, but somehow the system does not see/use them. (?) While removing those packages, I saw warning messages saying something like some Japanese/Chinese/? fonts were not found and could cause Java to not work properly (sorry, I haven't noted down the messages exactly). Ok, I tried to enable the execute flag for 'notify-message' from Nautilus, then remove 'fetchmsttfonts' from Yast, and install it again. Nothing really changed, except the final "***fonts installed***" message is shown at the end of the install process; but the MS fonts are still not available. So the problem is elsewhere... I saw during the install process that an EULA is downloaded. Shouldn't the user be prompted to accept it or not ? I would like to try to help more, but I feel a bit bored by this MS fonts hassle. I shouldn't have to re-install the MS fonts because I already have them in my - now upgraded - 11.1 installation (Maybe next time I will upgrade the "zypper dup" way ?). I'm thinking of trying to restore my backed-up MS fonts with KDE Font Installer, but I'm still ready to test something else in the next days (like checking if everything goes well with SuSEconfig.fonts ???). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Or are you saying that the packagekit font feature is completely broken - unrelated to fetchmsttfonts?
I think that hit's the nail on the head :) Basically, what packagekit wants is a web infrastructure in the backend (just as it's done with the codec installers, same system). Fetch-Ms-fonts is completely unrelated (as I stated in comment #2) but of course remains a nice addition to the distribution. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

for this the script runs /usr/sbin/fonts-config in the end, but it seems not to work correctly. so it looks more like a X bug, then a fetchmsttfonts bug.
Interesting point. I tried "/usr/sbin/fonts-config -d", but saw nothing abnormal to me, except maybe the last line (?): .. executing: /usr/bin/xset fp rehash executing: /sbin/checkproc /usr/bin/xfs X Font Server not used. (In reply to comment #26)
To bad .... this ticket has been completely hi-jacked and wandered far off what it initially was about. It was about: PackageKit (not fetch-ms-fonts).
Ok. I suggest we move discussion about fetchmsttfonts to bug #554667 and restore/restrict discussion here to the initial PackageKit problem. -> https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=554667 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
