[Bug 396029] New: SaX2 does not detect monitor correctly
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=396029 Summary: SaX2 does not detect monitor correctly Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: RC 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: kjwaugh@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I am using a KDS monitor (XF-70) and during the latter Hardware detection phase of the Configuration it sets the refresh rates "Out of Range" so that you can't complete final stages of Installation. I was able to CTRL+ALT+"+" to get X to use a lesser screen resolution and complete the installation. For the preferred Resolution of 1280x1024 (or 1280x768) the suggested Vertical refresh rate is way out of spec at 165 Hz - I found my manual and it advises a setting of 60-65 Hz. Once I walked through Yast2 then SaX2 I was able to set this correctly and then I logged out and logged back in with much satisfaction. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't believe the 160Hz. This must a different issue, which in the end results in no signal at all. :-(
BTW, are we talking about a CRT or TFT monitor? Is it connected via VGA or DVI cable?
According to http://www.kdsusa.com/ProductDetails.asp?prod=8 this is a CRT - connected via VGA cable of course. Dot Clock: 110 MHz (max) Frequency: 30-70 kHz (horizontal), 50-160 Hz (vertical) I will try to reproduce the issue you're seing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

VertRefresh 44-160
Xorg.0.log:
(II) RADEON(0): Monitor[0]: Using vrefresh range of 44.00-160.00 Hz (--) RADEON(0): Virtual size is 1280x1024 (pitch 1280) (**) RADEON(0): *Mode "1280x1024": 77.6 MHz, 46.2 kHz, 44.0 Hz (II) RADEON(0): Modeline "1280x1024"x44.0 77.62 1280 1344 1480 1680 1024 1025 1028 1050 (46.2 kHz)
==> 44Hz is the problem here. What the monitor probes (160Hz) is bogus. So the monitor detection is wrong here. It should detect 30-70 kHz (horizontal) 50-160 Hz (vertical) instead of HorizSync 30-70 VertRefresh 44-160 The easiest way to fix this would be add an entry to our monitor database, but we already have one. But why is it not used? #============================================== # XF-70 #---------------------------------------------- KDS:XF-70 { DDC=STC0777 Hsync=30-70 Vsync=50-160 } I'm sorry, that I need to reassign this one back to you, Marcus. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
