After solving the problem of broken virtual machine manager (VMM) in case of not runnimg libvirtd, because qemu has not been installed by yast,
Currently, qemu should not be a requirement for Xen. If virt-manager wont work on a Xen-only configuration, we need to fix that.
( see picture Error2.png).

1.installing qemu - Universal CPU emulator, libvirt-daemon-qemu, libvirt-daemon-driver-qemu and other packages needed for libvirtd.
These should not be needed to run libvirtd on a Xen host. The -xen packages should be used, e.g. libvirt-daemon-xen, libvirt-daemon-driver-libxl, libvirt-daemon-driver-xen.
Starting this config with command :xl create OS13.1RC1 gives the result : Parsing config from OS13.1RC1 libxl: error: libxl_dom.c:353:libxl__build_pv: xc_dom_kernel_file failed: No

Schreiner <thomas.e.schreiner@t-online.de> 2013-12-02 09:21:50 UTC --- I've tested this morning on another Machine from the type Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX200-S6 with 2 * Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2660, 64GB Core and 600GB HD in RAID-10. This machine has been upgraded from OS12.3 to OS13.1 last last Thursday with patch version libvirt-1.1.2-5.1.x86_64. That you have to connect to localhost is in the moment normal procedure. The question of how to install succsessful a new instance is depending on the way you choose. to take vm-install (pict. VMM-Test02-Config-01.jpg) in the pull-down-menue will write th necessary config-files to /etc/xen/vm, but failes with an error message (pict. VMM-Test02-Error-01.jpg and -02.jpg). If you choose the other way by just pushing the new button, you have to look for the extended options, that you might choose paravitualisation, default seems to be full (pict VMM-Test03-02.jpg and -03.jpg). In this case please notice what the menue is telling about the bridge-device it wants to use, viv1.0. Libvirt seems not have recognised, that ther is alreaddy a instance test running and using vif1.0! (see also pict VMM-Error-01.jpg) xv6-6:/etc/xen/vm # ls test Test-2 Test-2.xml test.xml xv6-6:/etc/xen/vm # xl list Name ID Mem VCPUs State Time(s) Domain-0 0 60516 32 r----- 776.5 test 1 2048 2 -b---- 18.2 xv6-6:/etc/xen/vm # So I had to stop the instance "test" and reboot the server and then I was able to install the new instance Test-3. The alternate install-procedure does'nt write any config-files into /etc/xen/vm, so the only way to start and stop this instaces are the Virtual Machine manager, or to create th config file manualy for starting with command xl create <name>. But WARNING !! If you start an instance manualy, the VMM cant see it at the moment! (pict. What creating process? virt-install (the default) or the optional vm-install?
Today I tested it again (a new fresh complete install with the additional virt. repo) and now it works correctly (install over virt-install and vm-install)!

No, the problem was that I must create the first connect to localhost manually and then I can install a new vm. But now it works... although I don't no why. But I have/found another problem. When I create a new vm over vm-install (opensuse 13 template, pv and installation over local media (e.g. dvd)) and I tried to disconnect the cd/dvd-drive in the vm settings after finished the vm can't start again... or did the vm need the cd/dvd to run correctly? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Which tool or command did you use to disconnect the cd/dvd and which tool or command did you use to start the VM after disconnecting? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I try to look quick to describe from my head. I used the "YAST2 GUI", so I can find in YAST2 under Virtualization -> VM Manager (or similar) and then right-click on the vm -> open -> detail -> dvd/cd and here "disconnect". Than I run it with the run button in VM Manager, right-click on the vm. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

After that one has started with a xend/libvirtd configuration (which I have subsequentially switched to libvirtd/libxenlight) I experienced a segmentation fault when attempting to create a VM with virt-manager over a TCP/SASL connection. I have already included a backtrace of the failed attempt there. Maybe the two bugs should be merged? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't think so, at least not at this point. Stefan is now able to create domains, but has a problem disconnecting the install cd/dvd afterwords - which should really be handled in a new bug. Apparently you and Thomas (original reporter of this bug) are still not able to create domains, but Thomas does not experience a segfault. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
