[Bug 461575] New: pulseaudio is jerky/skips on intel8x0
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=461575 Summary: pulseaudio is jerky/skips on intel8x0 Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: nevion@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User Straight from the devs mouth: http://www.pulseaudio.org/ticket/396#comment:5 Please adopt the patches necessary to make PA perform well. Additionally, version bump in pulseaudio would be nice as the devs do not recommend using 0.9.12 (not stable). In fact, the devs recommend heavily patched versions of PA 0.9.13. Symptoms: Imagine CD skipping every 5 seconds to 2 minutes for an instant no matter what load on your system or priority you assign pulseaudio for any sounds on the system. All the time. It's infuriating. intel8x0 is still in *alot* of computers so many users should be affected by this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

FYI, we have PA 0.9.13 packages in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home://rodrigomoya://pulseaudio/ I just added 11.1, which was missing, so it's building. In the meantime, if you want, you can try the openSUSE_Factory packages, which should work in 11.1, or try rebuilding the SRPM package) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

These are 0.9.14 plus a few selective backports from git.
From the upstream ticket it looks like disabling glitch free works for you. I'd like to see if those packages work or if you still need to disable glitch free mode. Make sure and remove the tsched=0 line from your default.pa, and restart the pulseaudio server. If that still has issues then try with the tsched=0 line back in and let me know the results.

Before I upgraded however (about 3 weeks ago), I was using 0.9.14 from the gnome factory repo for a few weeks in an effort to reduce problems. tsched=1 still wasn't working. That probably didn't include the backports from git but it does say the version bump alone doesn't help. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
