[Bug 395572] New: home directory gone but space is occupied
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=395572 Summary: home directory gone but space is occupied Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ingesvensson@bredband.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer During my installation I decided to keep my home partition, but I was at the first point in the installation asked to add a user. During the second stage of installation the part user was skipped by the installation program. The installation program complained space was low on home since I had two .iso files of openSUSE 10.3 there. When installation was ready all my settings for that user was gone and I saw no files on the Desktop, but the space was still limited and the files that were on the Desktop was nowhere to be found. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It looks like your old system is mounted in /home and your new installation is mounted as /. Is thare any possibility your old home partition was overwrite and now it's your root (/) partition and your old root partition is now your /home ? I have no other idea why you have these files in /home directory. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The strange thing is that /home/home/ is empty. If they were mixed up it should have contained the missing .iso files I think we will leave it until someone else gets the same problem. At least you solved my problem. I'll just erase everything in /home/ except my own directory. This mount point is on root partition. You have now /dev/sdb6 as / and /dev/sdb5 as /home. On /dev/sdb6 is directory /home which is empty. It's only mount point for /dev/sdb6. Thank you for your bugreport. I must have mixed the partitions yup at installation. That explains why everyting in /home/ was erased when the / partition was formated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
