That guy is completely mislead. The yealink driver is open source (obviously) and uses no propietary protocols. It translates the scancodes from the device to standard keyboard scancodes. It also exposes an interface in /proc for manipulating the ringer and display on the device. The driver is useful regardless of any add-on to make it work with skype. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can see wanting to blacklist the yealink driver by default. It should be noted, however, that the kb2skype project he mentions appears to no longer exist though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If this module is to be turned off, how about us removing it entirely from the upstream kernel? If so, please contact the kernel developers to have them do this if that is what the original authors agree with. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I want the driver enabled, not disabled. The user space application that lead the mailing list poster to request that the driver be disabled is no longer available. Also the driver provides functionality (LCD display on the device) which is not provided by any other means. This is a good driver and it never should have been disabled. My comment #4 was to express what should have been done rather than disable the driver and to suggest that if we want to keep the angry mailing list poster appeased we should use a modprobe blacklist rather than disable the driver.
