[Bug 450196] ext3 - recovering journal on / on first boot on new kernel/fresh system updates
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=450196 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=450196#c98 --- Comment #98 from Christian Boltz <suse-beta@cboltz.de> 2012-07-11 13:52:42 CEST --- (In reply to comment #97)
On 12.2 the /etc/adjtime will be always created if it does not exists in case of an update the %post scriptlet of package aaa_base will create the /etc/adjtime with the help of /etc/sysconfig/clock and then remove HWCLOCK from /etc/sysconfig/clock.
Should this be mentioned in the release notes? The reason I'm asking this: In the past, /etc/adjtime was just a "cache" with information how exact the hardware clock works, and it was a common recommendation to delete it after fixing the date/time with ntpdate to avoid too much drift. Now that /etc/adjtime is the only place that stores the former HWCLOCK setting, deleting it isn't a good idea - and that's why I'm asking if there should be a release notes entry about it. Proposed text, rough draft: /etc/adjtime now contains the information if your bios clock runs on UTC or in local timezone (previously stored in HWCLOCK in /etc/sysconfig/clock). If your /etc/adjclock contains wrong drift information (for example after fixing date/time with ntpdate), ___insert description how to fix drift information here___ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
