This results in a resolution of 1280x864 in a cloned mode configuration (default) when the external output is detected. I'm afraid this needs to be handled upstream. Could you open a bugreport on bugs.freedesktop.org (product xorg, component: Driver/intel) and take me into Cc (sndirsch@suse.de). You'll need to register first. Thanks.
