http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=591259 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=591259#c0 Summary: YaST2 suggests wrong place to install grub Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 4 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: fisiu82@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; pl-PL; rv:1.9.2.2) Gecko/20100317 SUSE/3.6.2-6.1 Firefox/3.6.2 I run openSUSE 11.3 M4 from USB, LiveKDE version. During install phase, I choose manually mount points. My current sda looks like: /dev/sda1 1 2611 20972826 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda2 * 2612 12161 76710375 5 Extended /dev/sda5 2612 3657 8393962 83 Linux /dev/sda6 3657 11097 59769801 83 Linux /dev/sda7 11098 12011 7341673+ 83 Linux /dev/sda8 12012 12161 1204843+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris On sda1 is winxp (shipped with pc), on sda5 is 11.2 / and on sda6 is my /home. I tried to install 11.3 M4 on sda7. After choosing all mount points, summary screen appeared. Then I picked out wrong grub config: Boot Loader Type: GRUB Status Location: /dev/sda2 (extended) Change Location: Boot from MBR is disabled (enable) Boot from "/" partition is disabled (enable) Sections: + openSUSE 11.3 (default) + Desktop -- openSUSE 11.2 - 2.6.31.12-0.2 (/dev/sda5) + Windows + Linux other + Failsafe -- openSUSE 11.3 Order of Hard Disks: /dev/sda, /dev/sdb Big + for all openSUSE developers. Installer doesn't want to overwrite my current grub in mbr. But... Installer wants to put grub into sda2 (Status Location: /dev/sda2 (extended)) but should put it into sda7. In this scenario and similar (where other linux exists on other partition) grub should be installed on partition which has been chosen for /. Is there any way to spy if grub exist in mbr? If exist, choose a relevant configuration. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you disagree with y2-bootloade proposal you can change it manually but y2-bootloader always try to propose bootable confinguration for installation it means change also MBR. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
