[Bug 1103647] New: kdesue hangs after zypper dist-upgrade or iso network upgrade
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1103647 Bug ID: 1103647 Summary: kdesue hangs after zypper dist-upgrade or iso network upgrade Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: All Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Applications Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: ted.kandell@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/68.0.3440.75 Safari/537.36 Build Identifier: Unable tos start yast2 from the menu, because kdesu hangs after an upgrade from Leap 42.3 to 15.0 kdesu hangs after the password is entered. sudo works fine. running kdesu from the command line first shows the message "no protocol specified" and then after entering the root password, the message displayed is "kdesu_stub" and kdesu hangs. I tried the recommended fixes: removing all the files in /tmp and /var/tmp and rebooting removing /.Xauthority and rebooting, which worked one time I am unable to run any graphical applications that require root permissions (i.e. yast2) but as I said, sudo and su work fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. zypper dup or iso upgrade from Leap 42.3 to 15.0 2. Select yast2 from the menu, or 3. run kdesu -c <command> from the command line Actual Results: kdesu hangs after the correct root password is entered. or, from the command line: $ kdesu -c ls No protocol specified kdesu_stub Expected Results: yast2 or any other graphical application (or any command) should run as root. No fix works, even completely removing the contents of /tmp and /var/tmp and rebooting, and / or removing /.Xauthority and rebooting. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

On this box I'm creating this bug-report from - another update from 42.3 to openSUSE 15.1 - I can see this behavior even worse: Other than with 15.0 even "su -" isn't working on konsole
This very much sounds like bug#1133808. Do you have pam_kwallet installed? The original report states that "I am unable to run any graphical applications that require root permissions (i.e. yast2) but as I said, sudo and su work fine." though. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
