[Bug 842948] New: YaST <system backup> hangs up on the search phase and fails to backup
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=842948 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=842948#c0 Summary: YaST <system backup> hangs up on the search phase and fails to backup Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.1 Beta 1 Platform: i586 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: hws@txgroup.net QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 Yast <systm backup> - The search for files never ended - even after two hours; The help file says "The search is in progress for files that do not belong to a package. This takes several minutes, depending on the speed of your system and the size of the file system." My system is a 2+GH with 3+ GB ram. The Search quickly located 27 files which were modified, total size 353 kb and then hangs on Searchin in directory /.snapshots *** Used the defaults for <Profile Management>: Backup files not belonguing to Any Package; I used a /bu directory (partioned and mounted) because in the past (SR 10821897712) Yast was not able to restore a backup file on a USB driver. After two failures, calling Yast2 from the command line, I edited the <Search Constrains> to exclude from the search /.snapshots and repeated the manual backup. The system ignored the added exeption and hang up on the <Searchin Files> phase of the process. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open YaST and select <system backup> 2. Set the backup file within a file directory - do not use external USB driver - 3. run the back with the default settings. Actual Results: same as above Expected Results: backup will hang on the search phase. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Checked the last logs...
YaST2/signal contains: === 2013-10-03 02:00:20 -0700 === YaST got signal 6 at YCP file /usr/share/YaST2/include/backup/ui.rb:314
According to source code https://github.com/yast/yast-backup/blob/master_old/src/include/backup/ui.rb...
There is: Convert.to_boolean(SCR.Read(path(".process.running"), @backup_PID))
No idea why it crashes right here... Josef?
Process agent crash. It just show last ycp or ruby code that is executed. When I use c++filt it looks like it crash somewhere in ProcessAgent::Read(YCPPath const&, YCPValue const&) and according to backtrace at this line: https://github.com/yast/yast-core/blob/master/agent-process/src/ProcessAgent... according backtrace it crashed somewhere in this method - https://github.com/yast/yast-core/blob/master/liby2util-r/src/Process.cc#L91 With help mvidner problem is throwing length_error in buffer append - it means it reads too big string as usually size of string is usually around max_size: 4294967291 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
