[Bug 421799] New: kde4 sound system not working
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421799 Summary: kde4 sound system not working Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: peebhat@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- After update,kde4 sound system is not working. But the underlying sound infrastructure itself seems to be functional as I can play with amarok or I can use skype. The most visible aspect of this behaviour is when I login I do not hear any welcome music. When I first installed Opensuse 11.0 with kde4,I used to get this welcome music and had generally no problem with sound. Now,the skype can play a sound, but if I connect mike,I cannot use that in KDE4.But if I switch to Opensuse 10.3/kde3,I can use the same mike. In sound setting,I see 'gstreamer' as the backend. If I am not wrong,'gstreamer' belongs to gnome.Could that be the problem?Because,if I switch to gnome,my mixer is muted.I used to see package incompatibility complaints in 'updater' about some 'gnome-settings' package and it showed some relation with pulse-audio. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You're wrong, also KDE4 can use gstreamer as backend. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What "update"? Online update? Update to KDE 4.1.x with build service repositories? Yes.From KDE4:Factory repository.(Ignore incorrect spec. The repo was picked up from community repositories)

You know better.
I have seen quite a few references to sound problems in KDE4 and OS11.0 on net.Recently when a friend wanted to skype me and had problems with mic,I asked him what he is running. The answer was OS11.0 / KDE4. So,MIC never works in KDE4(for lot of users).Playing works for applications, but not for KWM. After one of the updates,I had even playing stopped. But again after a recent update,I got back. This is surely a mess of the kmix, sound server, backends. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You say that now the KDE4 sound system works, if I understand correctly, so what is the status of this bugreport now?
