[Bug 230689] New: Dual Boot and Login screen
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230689 Summary: Dual Boot and Login screen Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 5 Platform: i386 OS/Version: Windows XP Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: AutoYaST AssignedTo: ug@novell.com ReportedBy: krbaburaj@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de My Machine details. Mother Board - Intel DP965LT Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo Memory - 1GB DDR2 VGA card - GeForce 7300 HDD - 80GB SATA, 40GB PATA (both samsung) Monitor - LG 500G(15") I was using Windows XP pro and it was installed on 80GB SATA Drive.I Like to install openSuse 10.2. For that i formatted the entire 40GB PATA drive and partitioned like follows root - 8GB (Reizer) opt - 7GB (Reizer ) swap - 2GB usr -8GB(Reizer ) home - 12GB(Reizer ) and installed the openSuse. The installation was successfull and suse identifies my Windows partitions in 80 GB SATA Drive. In the grub there is an entry for windows and if i select it does nothing. But i can boot to openSuse.. When selecting windows the screen is showing ...... chainloader(hd1,0)+1 after that nothing is happening hd0 = PATA (40GB) hd1 = SATA (80 GB) if i remove the PATA drive from my machine then windows boots normally. In the BIOS, i have no option for selecting the HDD as first drive. May be i need to upgrade my BIOS which i dont like. The above is one problem...another is after starting openSuse..i can see the screen with the loading(blue screen while booting)...but just before the login screen arrives the monitor goes off and i can see through the HDD LED that it is normally booting.. It may be because of refresh frequency of my monitor ..i change the /boot/grub/menu.lst file by editing the VGA = 0x317 to VGA = 0x315. Now i get the login and everything is fine ...the problem is now i cant see the screen of loading..instead i can see the konsole view only. Also after booting i can see that the desktop is at right aligned to the monitor.I need to change the X POSITION of my monitor to make it clear. If im using windown i again need to change the X POSITION to back. I like to totally migrate to openSuse but dont like a sudden change Please get me the answer as early as possible. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
