Re: [opensuse-factory] Can't add Full-Qualified-Hostname to hosts file
using yast2
* From: Katarina Machalkova
In the "/etc/hosts" file on opensuse 10.2, I have the "Full-Qualified-Hostname" on my machine in like this: # IP-Address Full-Qualified-Hostname Short-Hostname 127.0.0.2 my_hostname.my_dns my_hostname
This was not the case with 10.3 after I installed it - so I tried to add it.
I can add a Full-Qualified-Hostname (in the form of the line above) manually via the command line but I can't using yast2 by running "DNS and Hostname" with the "Change Hostname via DHCP" and "Write to Hostname to /etc/hosts" options selected.
Please file a bug and assign it to me. As there is a new feature in 10.3 ("Enable defining different hostname for each static IP address"), the way how hostnames are written to /etc/hosts has been changed. It seems that I've moved around more code than it was necessary :( Cheers B. -- \\\\\ Katarina Machalkova \\\\\\\__o YaST developer __\\\\\\\'/_ & hedgehog painter ########## end Hello Katarina Feel free to forward the following to anyone on your team who might be able to help or troubleshoot it. Or note it for further reference for server OS Here I go - for what it is worth. I have experienced another problem (see "Network error: The client or server timed out waiting to receive data using TCP/IP." below) on all 10.3 alphas and betas that I have tried (which is > 3). In the error below the application is connecting "internally" (via unixODBC). I strongly believe that the error below is an internal network (stack or network management?) related problem because I do not get this error on opensuse v10.1 nor v10.2. Please note that I even installed Fedora7 on VMware and updated it to a 2.6.22 kernel. (Despite the fact that it was the second time that I installed Fedora in my life) easily I managed to install the application and test it without getting the network error message below. This is not currently the case for 10.3 (unfortunately). A "diff" comparing 10.3 and Fedora 7 unixODBC.rpms sayes they're the same, and the fact the Fedora kernel version was compable with 4.3 b2 would seem to imply that the unknown delta is the 10.3 network stack or management there of. Could the the yast2 problem (this bug) and the error message below - be related ? ### start MAXL> ERROR - 1042017 - Network error: The client or server timed out waiting to receive data using TCP/IP. Check network connections. Increase the NetRetryCount and/or NetDelay values in the ESSBASE.CFG file. Update this file on both client and server. Restart the client and try again. ### @+ James -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No clue, as I'm not unixODBC expert, but do these problems persist if you add '127.0.0.2 myhost.mydomain myhost' line into your /etc/hosts manually? If they do, please open a new bugreport for that and assign it to unixODBC maintainer (anosek@novell.com). The YaST issue is fixed in yast2-network-2.15.78. If you check 'Write hostname to /etc/hosts', the containing line '127.0.0.2' should be in your hosts file *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 304632 *** https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304632 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
