[Bug 630652] New: kernel module aha152x_cs.ko missing
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=630652 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=630652#c0 Summary: kernel module aha152x_cs.ko missing Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jens.herden@email.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 SUSE/3.6.8-0.1.1 Firefox/3.6.8 I want to use my SCSI scanner but the Adaptec PC Card 1460C does not work. It used to work in openSUSE 11.2 and before. Further investigations show that the needed module aha152x_cs.ko is not available anymore. I can not find it under /lib/modules and I am not able to find a package that contains the module. :-( pccardctl shows that the pc card itself has been found and I also see entries in the sys filesystem. I guess you have the -desktop kernel flavor installed. The module you need is only in -default flavor.
Yes, your guess is right. But I have not made any selection during installation, so this is what the installer took for my notebook. However, I installed the package kernel-default and tried with this kernel. But it still does not work. And I can not find the module under /lib/modules/ jens-d630:~ # uname -a Linux jens-d630.site 2.6.34-12-default #1 SMP 2010-06-29 02:39:08 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok, the module is working only in 32-bit. So my guess two is that you have been using a 32-bit kernel with 11.2, correct? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

ups, what a nasty surprise. That is the last thing I would have expected. Do you know why?

Dunno, probably they feared about 64-bits. I found a patch which removes the dependency and also a person who reports it works: http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-scsi/2010/3/6/6832393/thread https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14333 I'll ping upstream about what they think. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
