[Bug 226217] New: regression: font rendering in OO (KDE-integration does not provide correct "system font" anymore)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=226217 Summary: regression: font rendering in OO (KDE-integration does not provide correct "system font" anymore) Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 5 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: eward@novell.com ReportedBy: sven.burmeister@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de I use Sans Serif and Serif as system fonts in KDE. Since the MS truetype fonts are installed, those get used and render very well. In 10.1, after enabling "use system fonts" in OO's settings, the GUI fonts were as clean as those used in KDE. I think it's called bitmap style or black/white rendering, according to /etc/fonts/suse-hinting.conf. I was told on the OO IRC channel, that it is the KDE integration that supplies which one is the "system font". Since they do not look the same in 10.2 there must have been some regression in the KDE integration, or in OO. I restarted the whole computer just to make sure that this was not due to some cache or quickstart issue. OO does show the ttf in the fonts list, so it is aware of them, but somehow does not use them for the GUI and does not even render them as clean as KDE does when using them in the text. This worked in 10.1 too and might be a hint that it is not the KDE integration but OO ignoring the rules which interpreter to use to render the ttf. I also changed the BYTECODE_MAX (or similar) from 0 to 15 via the sysconfig-editor which results in /etc/fonts/suse-hinting.conf: <test name="pixelsize" compare="less_eq"> <double>15</double> </test> but does not help. I consider having cleanly rendered fonts in OO as very important!
