[Bug 282908] New: Custom ACPI DSDT support in kernels is not enabled by default
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=282908 Summary: Custom ACPI DSDT support in kernels is not enabled by default Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 4plus Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ray@openland.cz QAContact: qa@suse.de I found, that all pre-compiled kernels in SUSE Factory (including 10.3 Alpha4) don't have enabled CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT option in kernel, so there is no way how to use custom DSDT (and my laptop - Asus A6Km - is hanging during kernel boot when any USB device is connected again). I am not sure, this is bug, because I am using kernels from Factory on openSUSE 10.2 (maybe 10.3 has other workaround for custom DSDT). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The next release, and tomorrow's KOTD kernel will contain the feature. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I made some tests and this option is not I was thinking about (it requires some additional static include of DSDT and it cause to errors during kernel compilation when this special file is not defined). Option I have in openSUsE 10.2 kernel is called CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT_INITRD, but there is no option like that in kernel in HEAD or in Factory. Maybe some additional patch is required(?). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I didn't enable CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT. Re-closing. :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Would you mind FIXING the patch before you reenable it? See bug 256305. It's happening all again now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=282908 ------- Comment #5 from jeffm@novell.com 2007-06-15 08:27 MST ------- Sigh, of course it couldn't be that easy. I've disabled it again and commented the series and patch to look at bug 256305 before re-enabling. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=282908 ------- Comment #6 from ray@openland.cz 2007-06-15 08:41 MST ------- I think, it is not right way, because by disabling acpi_dsdt_ssdt_initrd_initramfs.patch you cause many machines unusable. Also, after I made simple debugging, it seems to be kernel related bug, not patch related, so it will more clear to enable patch and find fix for bug in kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=282908 ------- Comment #7 from jeffm@novell.com 2007-06-15 08:44 MST ------- Keeping it enabled causes other machines to be unusable and is a regression from earlier alphas. We'll be looking to find a solution for this, but the answer isn't to re-introduce a blocker. I didn't remember seeing the earlier bug before enabling the patch or I wouldn't have. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
