Distributor is field present by YaST2 for user to edit.
Changing this turns out to be very useful for dealing with the limitations of UEFI, as suggested by Michael Chang in comment #32 to Bug 809038 (I'll add to that bug report later today). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #5 from Andrey Borzenkov
Distributor is field present by YaST2 for user to edit.
Changing this turns out to be very useful for dealing with the limitations of UEFI,
grub-install supports explicit --bootloader-id option; grub-install --bootloader-id=foobar will install under \EFI\foobar. So what about the following suggestion: 1) GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR is by default set to shell script that returns current version. Compatible with current default would be GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="$(. /etc/os-release; echo "$NAME $VERSION_ID")" Depending on grub theme, $PRETTY_NAME could be considered as well. 2) explicit variable to control EFI directory is added. I would very much prefer to use it in perl-Bootloader only without patching grub-install SUSE_EFI_DIRECTORY Default is empty; if it is non-empty, perl-Bootloader will call grub-install --bootloader-id $SUSE_EFI_DIRECTORY 3) yast-bootloader will present for both fields checkbox "default"; if checked, above defaults are used and input field is inactive; if cleared, user is free to set whatever is required. This allows changing installation path on EFI without messing with current OS version and ensures version in grub.cfg is always correct. On update users will need to check "default" once. Does it make sense? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
