http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1205534 Bug ID: 1205534 Summary: crash of systemsettings5 after activating bb10dark application style Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.4 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: ndordea@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 862964 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=862964&action=edit debug info generated by kde appl to report a KDE crash Hello, On Nov-13-2022 after I activated the app style bb10dark via systemsettins5, any attempt to use systemsettings5, krusader, open edit sessions ended up in the same crash .... I followed tha steps of reporting the crash to kde, and the bug 461797 was open. A couple of days later I got KDE's Nate Graham resolution : ---------------------------------------------------------------- Nate Graham 2022-11-14 15:58:43 CST This is a downstream issue in the style itself, which is not a KDE thing. It's a sad fact of life that Application Styles can crash apps, because they're c++ code. ---------------------------------------------------------------- So I try it solved by opensuse support team[s] : Please find below : 1) what I opened with kdebugs [ ONE ] 2) a shortcut I discovered to set up another app style [ TWO ] 3) some issues with compositor/OpenGL [ THREE ] 4) the attachment with debug info ...... [ ONE ] =========== After setting the KDE style to bb10dark via systemsettings5 any attempt to use systemsettings5, krusader ended with a crash . The systemsetting5 crash produces the message : executable systemsettings .... Signal Floating point exception(8) . I selected to report the crash but the submit step failed ... Error sending the crash report https://bugs.kde.org/rest?tocken = 178682 . I was able to save the report into a file [ using PCManFM ] that will be attached . Please note that prior of that style change the system has worked fine . *** NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug symbols. See https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_usef... *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. 2. 3. OBSERVED RESULT EXPECTED RESULT any attempt of starting systemsettings5 and/or krusader ends in crash . Also attempt to save a file [ default krusader ] again produces crash . SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: plasma5workspace 5.24.4-bp154.1.2.3 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: libKF5Plasma5 5.90.0-bp154.1.4.2 Qt Version: libQt5Core5 5.15.2+kde294-150400.6.31 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I was not able to attach the file [ the same crash happens] Instead ,I can send the file via email ..... Could you please give me the email and other info to send the file ? Thank you very much ! Nick Dordea [ TWO ] ========= Then I tried a shortcut ...... A) reboot at login time selected GNOME on Xorg and login as usual ...... B) while in GNOME I tried to see what happens if systemsettings5 is started ..... VOILA systemsettings5 started fine I changed bb10dark to awaita dark then shutdown C) at login change GNOME to Plasma(X11) login .... and everything is working fine . Should you have any comments/requests please let me know . Thank you, Nick [ THREE ] =========== Recently I noticed a very interesting info about kwin systemsettings5 --> Display Configuration --> Compositor OpenGL compositing (the default) has crashed KWin in the past. This was most likely due to a driver bug. If you think that you have meanwhile upgraded to a stable driver, you can reset this protection but be aware that this might result in an immediate crash! box [Re-enable OpenGL detection] Compositing [ ] Enable on startup [X] Allow applications to block compositing =========================================================== Thank you Nick -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
