[Bug 1132943] New: Kernel 5.0.8: xhci_hcd and thunderbolt modules are crashing
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1132943 Bug ID: 1132943 Summary: Kernel 5.0.8: xhci_hcd and thunderbolt modules are crashing Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: opensuse@mike.franken.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- With the latest kernel 5.0.8 the xhci_hcd and thunderbolt modules are crashing leaving me without any peripheral devices. - notebook Dell Inc. XPS 13 9370/0F6P3V, BIOS 1.8.1 02/14/2019 - Thunderbolt docking station CalDigit TS3 Plus The bigger problem seems to be the error regarding xhci_hcd. According to a suggestion from some forum I added pci=realloc to the kernel command line. With this parameter xhci_hcd doesn't give any error, the thunderbolt module is nevertheless crashing. Mouse an keyboard are working now, but some other devices like the smartcard reader attached to the Tunderbolt dock doesn't. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

For another case I got the advice: ----- You can use the upload location for supportconfig as outlined at: https://www.suse.com/support/kb/doc/?id=7023007 Afterwards, please let me know the filename (best is if you add the bug number to the filename). ----- The ftp server is mentioned in this KB acticle. At the moment I can switch between 5.0.7 and 5.0.8 back and forth - and there are no problems with 5.0.7, while in 5.0.8 I always get errors for xhc_hcd and crashes for the thunderbolt module. It happened with a Dell monitor connected to the dock and the nvidia proprietary drivers loaded. I'm currently only using Intel drivers (i915) with no monitor connected and there are no such crashes. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can't boot this kernel because of signature verification failure 8-( This is a secure boot system.
So could you either disable secure boot for a minute or install the Takashi's certificate?
For the latter: osc signkey --sslcert home:tiwai |openssl x509 -outform DER -out /tmp/tiw mokutil --import /tmp/tiw
ok, I switched off secure boot for the moment. Booting your 5.0.9 kernel gives the same error messages as 5.0.8 does. 5.0.7 still working without any problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks. So something else must be the culprit.
Meanwhile, could you check the latest 5.1-rc upstream kernel in OBS Kernel:HEAD repo? If this shows the same problem, we'll need to ping the upstream dev immediately. (Note that this also needs to disable the secure boot.)
OTOH, if 5.1-rc kernel works, it means some incomplete backport in 5.0.x.
No, sorry to tell, but 5.1-rc6 still has the problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
