[Bug 443819] New: [BETA 5] ksnapshot crashed compiz-decorator when launched
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=443819 Summary: [BETA 5] ksnapshot crashed compiz-decorator when launched Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Compiz AssignedTo: bnc-team-compiz@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ben.kevan@gmail.com QAContact: bperry@novell.com Found By: --- Today I removed emerald, updating to the compiz in factory (as opposed to the one in XGL) .. and went to take a snapshot w/ ksnapshot and it crashed my compiz-decorator. rpm -qa | grep compiz compiz-plugins-dmx-0.1.0-3.16 compiz-kde-0.7.8-4.7 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.7.8-1.25 compiz-0.7.8-4.7 libcompizconfig-0.7.8-1.28 python-compizconfig-0.7.8-1.28 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.7.8-3.17 Also, I am unable to set the Backend as KDE (which I believe compiz-kde should give). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I didn't have: libcompizconfig-backend-kconfig-0.7.8-1.25 Installed. Raising severity of this to major.. since it's reproducable every time and is a big usability issue.. When it crashes, the desktop goes black, but some of compiz continues to run. See screenshot (from prtsc alt+s 'typed in name' return): http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_11.1/compizcrash-blackscrn.jpg Let me explain: When the screen goes black, you might see a little white square or two where a piece of a window used to be, but everything else is black. I did confirm that input still works by opening konsole before closing ksnapshot so I would have a konsole to enter kwin --replace & into in case of failure (alt+F2 is screwed up on Beta 5 so you just can't do "alt+F2 kwin --replace &" as in kde3) The second time it happened, on a whim, I ctrl+alt+left-mouse'd the desktop and low-and-behold, the cube was still active, with the cube caps in perfect color, but I was looking at a 4-sided cube with all the sides black as night. Very strange, because the deformation had been set and functioning as a cylinder. Cube performance was just fine on rotation, etc.. I was determined to catch this behavior so you could see what was happening and my persistance paid off! I knew I had ksnapshot set for full-screen and delay set for 4 seconds, so I gave (alt+n 'grabbed and rotated screen' alt+s 'typed in name' return) and I got it! See: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_11.1/compizcrash-blackcube.jpg This shows what happens after the crash. The cylinder deformation is gone and it has reverted to the cube and all 4 sides of the desktop are black. Immediately prior to the crash, all appeared to be working OK. See: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/openSUSE_11.1/compiz-oss.jpeg Obviously there is a serious problem somewhere that causes this behavior. At least it is repeatable every time. Just start compiz, the take a screenshot with ksnapshot and then quit ksnapshot --> Wham black cube of death. I loaded my emerald themes in ~/.emerald and after I did that, when I execute emerald --replace, You could see the theme and decorations flash on the window borders for a split second and then all decorations disappeared. The only way to revive them was with a kwin --replace, but in KDE3 -- all terminal input is killed when the decor crashes, so I had to make a menu entry of a small bash script to get me out. Same happens in KDE4 except I still have terminal input after the decor crash to kwin --replace & works there -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
