[Bug 310476] New: Unable to configure HP Photosmart C6180 networked scanner in 10.3 Beta 3
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=310476 Summary: Unable to configure HP Photosmart C6180 networked scanner in 10.3 Beta 3 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 3 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: kgoggin@bigpond.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- I have been unable to configure a networked HP Photosmart C6180 MFP to scan images. Yast Message says 'no scanner found' or similar. I am aware that Yast only says it will detect USB and SCSI scanners but another machine running openSUSE 10.2 i386 on the same network recognises the scanner OK. Scanning using Kooka on the i386 machine is working satisfactorily. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

With "networked HP Photosmart C6180 MFP" you mean that the device is accessible via a built-in network interface
Yes.
To set up a scanner in a HP all-in-one device, first set up a print queue for the device with the CUPS backend "hp" (best run "hp-setup" as root to do this).
OK thank you. It's working now I had forgotten this :-( However since openSUSE attracts new users, some as dumb as me, would you consider the following 'enhancement' add the words 'for HP all-in-one devices, run "hp-setup" as root' to the Yast Scanner Config help text. Or better still have Yast invoke it automatically.
Then activate the "hpaio" driver in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf (i.e. uncomment the "hpaio" line in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf) you can do this by manually selecting any HP all-in-one device in the YaST sacnner config.
This bit wasn't required as it was done automatically by hp-setup. Thanks for your help. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

hp-setup doesn't activate the "hpaio" line in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf.
OK my error.
I assume it was already activated by your previous attempts with YaST.
I'm sure you are right.
There is a pending feature request at the HPLIP project, that hp-setup should care about the "hpaio" line in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf.
Good to hear, in the meantime do you also think it worth including something about activating the "hpaio" driver in the Yast Scanner Config Help Text? Thanks again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
