[Bug 224137] New: clamav-db package still available, but obsolete
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=224137 Summary: clamav-db package still available, but obsolete Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: max@novell.com ReportedBy: suse-beta@cboltz.de QAContact: qa@suse.de In bug 213512 you explained that clamav-db is no longer needed because the database is in the clamav package as %ghost. But: Factory (as of now) still has a clamav-db-0.88.6-9.i586.rpm package. If clamav-db is still considered obsolete, please a) remove it from the media b) update the Obsoletes: in clamav to clamav-db < 0.88.7 so that it also obsoletes the latest available clamav-db package -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In bug 213512 you explained that clamav-db is no longer needed because the database is in the clamav package as %ghost.
No, I didn't say that clamav-db is obsolete. Just the way the database files are being handled has changed. There are two ways to get the initial virus database: 1. Install clamav-db. It contains the cvd files under a different name and copies them over if it doesn't find newer versions to be existing already. See the %post script of clamav-db for details. 2. Run freshclam after installing clamav to download the latest version of the database files. So, clamav-db is optional as it always was, but it's not obsolete. It is still useful for those who don't have a broadband internet connection and it helps the ClamAV mirror servers saving some bandwidth. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I just verified that clamav-db can be installed without conflicting with clamav. You may want to remove the Obsoletes: in clamav again - it was needed to workaround the conflict on 10.1, but isn't needed with the 10.2 package layout anymore. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I think, I'll keep it for some time, because someone updating from a version with the old layout to 10.2 might also get the error you were describing in bug 213512. Also, as clamav is frequently getting version updates across all released versions of SUSE Linux, I try to keep the source package in a state so that I only need to maintain a single instance which works on all released products. This means, at least for SUSE-versions that initially shipped with the old layout, I have to keep the obsoletes tag, and for the others it doesn't hurt to have it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
