Sounds like a KDE/Qt bug: they shouldn't change permissions of .ICEauthority if they don't create/update it...
Right, but KDE3 does create/update it. See bug #177480 again (comment #17 and onward), in fact this is an exact duplicate of that bugreport. If GNOME sets $ICEAUTHORITY and su propagates that, starting dcopserver (since it's not normally running in GNOME) means modifying the file. And I really don't see how we could reasonably make iceauth keep the users permissions, since if that would be done, then there could be a security problem.
