[Bug 408184] New: X randomly fails to resume after suspend
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=408184 Summary: X randomly fails to resume after suspend Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: spiffytech@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- For an indeterminate length of time (possibly after an Xorg update a few weeks ago, I'm not sure) my laptop has begun failing to bring the X session back after a suspend-to-ram; I am left with a black screen. No shortcut I know can restore, reset, or kill the running X session. I cannot switch to another TTY either. Strangely, though, if I hit the power button my laptop safely shuts down. I haven't been able to find a common cause for this issue or reproduce it consistently. I'm current on all patches and my hardware profile can be found at devblog.us/lshw.html -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I obviously lost the pretty boot screen but without a framebuffer that's unavoidable. While the workaround works, I'd like to see this resolved. Should I submit this upstream to the kernel/Xorg teams, or is this a known hardware bug that can't be resolved? Also, could a patch be issued (and openSuse 11.1 changed) to set vga=0 in the grub config for laptops with 945GM cards? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have yet to see a machine with intel graphics that needs that. What's the output of "s2ram -n" (run as root) on that machine? Did this work with the clean 11.0 installation and break with an online update or are you running FACTORY? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'll try other options today. This is on 11.0, not FACTORY. Resume fails intermittently so it's hard to say for certain, but I believe the problem surfaced after an update. This indicates to me that the problem is not with the suspend system but a problem with X itself that can be triggered by either action. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
