[Bug 558772] New: Oss versions of mvapich2 give many pascal2 "DeprecationWarning" messages

http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=558772 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=558772#c0 Summary: Oss versions of mvapich2 give many pascal2 "DeprecationWarning" messages Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dave_trish_webb@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 SUSE/3.5.4-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.4 Mvapich2, a version of mpi2, uses pascal scripts for many of its user commands. Unfortunately the updated version of Pascal supplied with SuSE 11.2 does not like the pascal scripts and produces multiple lines like: ../bin/mpdlib.py:8: DeprecationWarning: The popen2 module is deprecated. Use the subprocess module. import sys, os, signal, popen2, socket, select, inspect ../bin/mpdlib.py:15: DeprecationWarning: the md5 module is deprecated; use hashlib instead from md5 import new as md5new It is only a minor bug but, until I realised it was not indicative of a more fundamental problem, it caused me a number of frustrating false starts when trying to find why an old MPI2 program did not run under SuSE 11.2 (it worked under 10.3). In the end I installed (downloaded and compiled) the Argonne mpich2 version of MPI system instead of the oregon mvapich version. The Argonne system also uses pascal but is fully up to date and causes no warning messages. primarily for people with high performance message passing hardware. For development on a low-end system, my experience is that the argonne system is better - certainly it has infinitely better documentation of the sort which really helped me to make the right choices - and solve my problem. http://www.mcs.anl.gov/research/projects/mpich2/ Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install mvapich 2. Try any command i.e. "mpiexec" 3. Actual Results: ../bin/mpdlib.py:8: DeprecationWarning: The popen2 module is deprecated. Use the subprocess module. import sys, os, signal, popen2, socket, select, inspect ../bin/mpdlib.py:15: DeprecationWarning: the md5 module is deprecated; use hashlib instead from md5 import new as md5new [followed by normal output] Expected Results: [normal output] -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
