http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=546864 Summary: winbind freeze when going online from a session opened offline Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: i586 OS/Version: SLED 11 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Samba AssignedTo: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de ReportedBy: vsteenhoute@novell.com QAContact: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Found By: Customer I'm using samba packages from network:samba:stable (3.4.1-7.2) in order to test this new version which will be included in our next release. There is few improvements but I found a regression, compared to samba 3.2. It concern winbind. Join a AD Domain (w2k3 servers) and first open a session with a AD account. -> All is working well. Now open a session in offline mode (no network) and start a application (ie terminal) -> working well Connect the machine to the network and wait for winbind to go online. Next try to start a application : nothing happens. Winbind is in a undetermined state and all authentication stack does not respond. So you cannot start applications, login with root, .... After few minutes winbind come back to a normal state and all is working. I'll attach logs, ... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If network cable is plug in when I resume, the auth dialog of gnome-screensaver freeze when trying to authenticate. It seems to be a related issue because it happends when winbind come back online, after resuming. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Winbind does not always respond very well to changing network environments. When online and plugged in to the network, everything is fine. But when you unplug or suspend you sometimes encounter hanging winbind. A lot is dependant on pam-winbind, you cannot unlock your screensaver or open a new terminal window. Only thing that works is the go to tty1 and restart winbind. Today I found a situation that I can reproduce. At home-offline start VPN winbind detects online state work over vpn disconnect vpn winbind hangs... waiting for 10 minutes does not help either. It does this every time EXCEPT when just before disconnecting I send the command "smbcontrol winbind offline" to the daemon. When I disconnect the VPN everything keeps on working. Tried it a few times. Gonna test this also at work. Manually setting winbind offline before going to standby or unplugging cable will update post. In the meanwile you can ask for any logs you like.
