[Bug 220432] New: ATI driver installation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220432 Summary: ATI driver installation Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: mbronczyk@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: hartmut.meyer@novell.com My motherboard: MSI K9VGM-V, graphics card: ATI Radeon X1300 operating system: SUSE 10.2 Beta 2 32-bits First I tried to install the drivers from http://www2.ati.com/suse/ I added the new installation source, when tried to install "ati-fglrx-kmp-smp" or "ati-fglrx-kmp-default" I was getting dependency conflicts, like: #### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2006-11-13 15:32:36 #### ati-fglrx-kmp-default-8.26.18_2.6.16.21_0.8-2.i586[20061113-143107] cannot be installed due to missing dependencies There are no installable providers of kernel(default:kernel_irq) == dd1d73732d05a591 for ati-fglrx-kmp-default-8.26.18_2.6.16.21_0.8-2.i586[20061113-143107] Conflict Resolution: ( ) do not install ati-fglrx-kmp-default ( ) Ignore this requirement just here #### YaST2 conflicts list END ### when ignored, new has arrived, etc. I gave up after a few of them, as this is fresh installed system and I didn't want to mess too much with it. I also tried to go for drivers directly from ATI website, I installed gcc, kernel-sources, and then in runlevel 3 as 'root': /ati-driver-installer-8.30.3.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE102-IA32 rpm -Uvh fglrx_7_1_0_SUSE102-8.30.3-1.i386.rpm and when I try: sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx the last line I get is: xc: sorry could not start configuration server xc: for details refer to the log file /var/log/SaX.log -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220432 ms@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |WONTFIX ------- Comment #2 from ms@novell.com 2006-11-13 08:04 MST ------- if your binary only driver is installed correctly you only need to call: init 3 sax2 -r as an alternative to sax you can use the ati-config tool. Anyway I'm sorry but if the binary only ati driver doesn't work you should consider to ask AMD (ATI) for help -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220432 ------- Comment #3 from mbronczyk@novell.com 2006-11-14 06:55 MST ------- OK, I did more research about this topic, as summary this bug can be reported as duplicate of: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=198125 Seems like ATI/AMD should do more regarding this problem.
