Can you make sure that your first bootable disk is set to /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST1000DM003-1CH162_S1D7EL8Q in your bios menu ? Or you choose to boot /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST1000DM003-1CH162_S1D7EL8Q explicitly ? That error might not be issued by openSUSE's bootloader, it could be whatever loader you've installed in /dev/disk/by-id/ata-MAXTOR_STM3160815AS_6RAC3X3P or /dev/disk/by-id/ata-MAXTOR_STM3160815AS_6RABZB81. why installer wants to put boot loader in sda mbr instead of sdc mbr ?
Because sda is your boot drive with bios id 0x80 (aka grub device (hd0)) .. and perl bootloader considered it as "mbr" device which the boot code put on it can take effect immediately after reboot. That's my guess for the decision, but I agree with yours that probably /dev/sdc is better. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

On my system /dev/sda is data only and /dev/sdb is the drive on which openSUSE is installed. The first hint that the bootloader behavior is different is that the installer has chosen mbr by default instead of /. This didn't happen with 12.3 with the same system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I also tried the install again and chose the 'custom' option and selected /dev/sdb for the bootloader. Still my machine won't boot for the configuration stage of the install. It will boot if I use the SuperGrub utility usb disk. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
