If I read http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/tables.html#adef-width-COLGROUP , correctly, the used column widths of 1*,6* should produce the same as 14%,86%, yet the renderer does not do that. In fact, the Firebug addon shows me that column 1 is 81 pixels and column 2 is 184 pixels, which is not a 1:6 splitup at all.
