[Bug 853148] New: Lack of "Action Policy" editor under kde4.11
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853148 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853148#c0 Summary: Lack of "Action Policy" editor under kde4.11 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: diego.ercolani@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0 kdebase4-workspace-4.11.2-7.4.x86_64 With the upgrade to OpenSuSE 13.1 I found that there is no "Action Policy" editor under system-setting to control and edit policy kit settings. All started because when I try to mount a USB keyboard under normal user I get: diego@pc-diego:/etc/polkit-1> udisks --mount /dev/sdi1 Mount failed: Authentication is required I see there is an empty /usr/share/PolicyKit/policy that don't belong to any package Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What happened? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is useless for couple of reasons: 1) it edits files in /usr, so on package upgrades, the policies get restored to original values 2) it is not the proper way to edit polkit actions/policies,etc on openSUSE, for more details see: http://activedoc.opensuse.org/book/opensuse-security-guide/chapter-8-configu... and e.g. http://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/html/openSUSE_114/opensuse-security/ch... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853148 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853148#c4 --- Comment #4 from Diego Ercolani <diego.ercolani@gmail.com> 2013-12-02 15:47:06 UTC --- Thank you, probably we need more housekeeping for our beloved distribution: sysvinit - systemd PolicyKit - polkit .. too many things doing the same service and no comprehennsive documentation that explain what is the "big idea" behind the distribution and where we are going. I think a simple flow-chart can explain what is behind. for reference I like very much the method postfix guys have chosen to write interaction between modules in the documentation, see for example: http://www.postfix.org/ADDRESS_REWRITING_README.html the "Postfix address rewriting overview". As you ca notice, with a single diagram it's easy to understand what is involved and what is doing what... I'm writing this only because I understand that nowdays changes happen very quickly and also for an average user like I am, is very difficult to follow all the technology used in the distribution without a trusted source of information. Thank you for your support. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
