After waking up from the suspend state, I must restart racoon if the VPN connection was still active. I use: $ nvpn -c suse After resume, the VPN is not active any more. Entering "nvpn" brings: ,-- | Failed to connect to AdminSock(/var/run/racoon/racoon.sock)! 111 | VPNCLIENT-UI-4611:Failed to connect to the Gateway. | Failed to connect to IKE. Restart IKE.bwalle@villariba:~ `-- So I have to restart racoon. There are no special error messages in /var/log/messages. I just installed a clean 10.3 on a notebook. I installed novell-ipsec-tools, turnpike and novell-nortelplugins from http://dist.suse.de/dist/full-x86_64/suse/x86_64/ as suggested by the innerweb article on Novell VPN. turnpike-0.1.1-161 novell-ipsec-tools-0.6.3-146 novell-nortelplugins-0.1.2-181 After suspend to disk and resume, the VPN still works. What versions of the above packages are you using? ok, please re-open if you can still see this in 11.0
Reopening. I've seen this since 11.0 and it's also seen in 11.1, though I believe to be a different issue. After an initial reboot of 11.0, racoond must be restarted in order for vpnlogin to work properly. In normal, when the pc suspend, no any keepalive packet will be accept by the Sever, the server will disconnect with the client. Which could be similar why when returning from a suspended mode that the racoond is not running. I had never gone and looked at the System Services (runlevel). My previous laptop had SLED10 and then I received a Lenovo W500 and had to install OpenSuSE 11.0 (SLED 10 would not work) I experienced the issue of racoond not starting. I then upgraded to 11.1 (to fix wireless and graphics issues with the Lenovo W500) and still experienced the issue that racoond was not automatically started. So, with OpenSuSE 11.0 and 11.1 racoond is not set to start when the O/S starts by default (that I think is a bug and needs to be fixed) I will set it to start automatically for RunLevel 5 and let you know if that resolves my issue. When the don't use the VPN, they wanna the racoond wouldn't start. :) So it's hard to decide to start it or not. Just leave it for user's decision.
