You very likely have remnants of broken configurations in your system... is this an upgrade or a clean install?
This is an upgrade from openSUSE 11.1 (directly from 11.1 to 11.3).
Check for these files: /etc/pango/pangorc (and eventual pangorc64 variants) $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/pango/pangorc (and eventual pangorc64 variants)
That does not seem to be the case? # find /etc -name '*pango*' /etc/pango /etc/pango/pangox.aliases /etc/pango/pango.modules ($XDG_CONFIG_HOME is not set in my environment, by the way.)
then the REAL one is in /usr/lib64/pango/1.8.0/modules.cache; please attach this file here for verification (you can look at it: there should only be paths listed to /usr/lib64/[...])
