[Bug 334996] New: Skype is not installable on default AMD64 installation.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=334996 Summary: Skype is not installable on default AMD64 installation. Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit URL: https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-231 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jarl@softace.dk QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer You may consider this a skype issue more than a OpenSuSE issue, however users will experience problems with OpenSuSE, hence this bug... The symptoms when trying to install Skype using the SuSE rpm: error: Failed dependencies: libQtCore.so.4 is needed by skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586 libQtDBus.so.4 is needed by skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586 libQtGui.so.4 is needed by skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586 libQtNetwork.so.4 is needed by skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586 libsigc-2.0.so.0 is needed by skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586 I will encourage all interested parties to vote on the related Skype bug: https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-231 That is the best way to request the skype staffs to fix their RPMs to contain 64bit binaries. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is quite installable if you install using yast or zypper or yum or smart etc. It will install the 32bit Qt libraries for you.
Thanks. I didnn't think of that... (In reply to comment #2 from Martin Mrazik)
There is nothing SUSE developers can do about this.
You are right, except from voting on the skype bug :-) I rest my case... Jarl -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is nothing SUSE developers can do about this. If you are installing Skype by hand its clear you need also to manually install its dependencies. If you don't know how to install them manually, please use zypper or yast.
Easier said than done... I donwloaded the RPM, put it in /tmp/ tried "yast -i /tmp/skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586.rpm", the console version of yast started, did some scanning of the RPM database, and then bailed out, no message at all... did a 'rpm -qa | grep -i skype' with no result. Then tried "zypper install /tmp/skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586.rpm", but it claimed: "package '/tmp/skype-1.4.0.118-suse.i586.rpm' not found" do I miss something? I know it's off-topic, so I'll respect if you wont reply... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Run createrepo in the directory you downloaded skype to first. Then add that directory as a repository to yast/zypper.
Thanks, I figures out that konqueror would do all this for me (behind the scene), if I opened the RPM with konqueror and clicked "Install with YaST".
