[Bug 553007] New: Network breakdown with KNetworkmanager
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=553007 Summary: Network breakdown with KNetworkmanager Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: axel.braun@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 SUSE/3.5.4-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.4 After KNetworkmanager can now deal with WEP keys, I changed the settings from traditional method to KNetworkmanager using a WLAN connetction. As a result, I get connection losses over and over. I noticed the same on a SUSE 11.1 after I upgraded today to KDE 4.3.3: On KDE 4.3.2 it was working fine, with 4.3.3 the problems start.... Unfortunately your report does not contain enough information to diagnose the problem. Please see the http://userbase.kde.org/NetworkManagement and especially this section:http://userbase.kde.org/NetworkManagement#It.27s_All_KDE.27s_Fault.21 . I had a look at the KDE Website, here's the result: axel@A30:~> qdbus --system --literal org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings /org/freedesktop/NetworkManagerSettings/0 org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerSettings.Connection.GetSettings [Argument: a{sa{sv}} {"802-11-wireless" = [Argument: a{sv} {"mode" = [Variant(QString): "infrastructure"], "security" = [Variant(QString): "802-11-wireless-security"], "seen-bssids" = [Variant(QStringList): {"00:13:49:9A:E6:93"}], "ssid" = [Variant(QByteArray): {108, 108, 108}]}], "802-11-wireless-security" = [Argument: a{sv} {"key-mgmt" = [Variant(QString): "none"], "wep-tx-keyidx" = [Variant(uint): 0]}], "connection" = [Argument: a{sv} {"autoconnect" = [Variant(bool): true], "id" = [Variant(QString): "lll"], "timestamp" = [Variant(uint): 1258924845], "type" = [Variant(QString): "802-11-wireless"], "uuid" = [Variant(QString): "5e086fd3-c245-48e6-931c-ab7fbaaecaa6"]}], "ipv4" = [Argument: a{sv} {"ignore-auto-routes" = [Variant(bool): true], "method" = [Variant(QString): "auto"]}]}] I noticed when I switched from traditional method to Network-manager, was that yast did not start knetworkmanager, so the user is left without network. This is probably a separate issue. I will watch out for networkdrops and send the respective logs -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

NetworkManager has no way to handle a random connection breakage (eg due to bad wireless conditions or driver problems) except by asking again for new secrets and trying again. In addition NetworkManager uses wpa_supplicant in daemon mode which is more likely to decide that a connection failed. Since the connection can be brought up successfully sometimes, and KNM does not change what info it provides to NM between attempts, it must be one of these problems. I am asking for a proper solution to this upstream on the NetworkManager mailing list. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is this as well related to Networkmanager?
