[Bug 557749] New: Intel[945G] Black screen
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557749 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557749#c0 Summary: Intel[945G] Black screen Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ck@gnadenweiler.de QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=328971) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=328971) Output by ,,startx'' when command is given from other computer, connected via ssh to the 11.2-PC. User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.0.15) Gecko/2009102100 SUSE/3.0.15-0.1.2 Firefox/3.0.15 After network installation (automatic), I had a black screen. I could boot only in RL S first, in RL 1 I didn't get a login prompt. After creating a xorg.conf with sax2, I can boot into RL3 now. But the graphical system doesn't start, and keyboard and mouse won't work either. The graphics card is 82945G and I tried the intel, vesa, ati and framebuffer-driver, nothing works. Computer: FujitsuSiemens EsprimoP5905i945G, Monitor Samsung Syncmaster 2343BW. Despite of the black screen (recently with rotating white dot) the system is running, I can watch it via the LAN with my laptop. When I boot into RL3 and do startx I see the start screen with the chameleon, but it freezes after some seconds. Probably someone can conclude what's going wrong from the output after typing ,,startx'' from the laptop, via ssh. I attached it. When the white dot is rotating on the screen, /var/log/messages says: kdm[1349]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Option "AutoAddDevices" "off"
This does not make a change. What are KWIN desktop effects? I haven't reached the graphical desktop yet, and during installation I followed the suggestions, so I did not activate anything unusual. Did you look at the output from startx? Here some errors are reported but I don't know what they mean. The system does not halt when I type ,,startx'' only the monitor either freezes or shows the rotating white dot. But I have access to the running system via ssh. Is there anything I can try? Check what processes are running? I need to get this going fast... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hi Lubos, I did move the kephal.desktop, but there was no change.
Bad news.
What about this pixman-thing: Is this the cause of the problem, or just a consequence:
Sure, I think so.
/usr/bin/Xorg: symbol lookup error: /usr/bin/Xorg: undefined symbol: pixman_transform_init_identity
Where did you find this output?
or (from SaX.log) /usr/sbin/xw: symbol lookup error: /usr/sbin/xw: undefined symbol: pixman_transform_init_identity
(when I say: usr/sbin/xw , the answer is ,,4092''. Is this some strange value?)
xw is started by SaX2. Not sure if it needs some special option. It's not mentioned to be called manually. For sure something is wrong with your Xorg binary or the libraries its linked against. We simply don't know yet why. And I'm not sure whether we'll ever figure out.
I also added the Option: "NoAccel" to xorg.conf in the section "Device" because I remembered an earlier problem with this graphic card: It lets you choose "3D-Acceleration on " in Yast, but can't do it, which caused also a black screen some years ago. But I could easily turn the option off and everything was back to normal. But here: No change again.
I don't think the issue is related to 2D/3D acceleration.
Is there a way to start a text-based configuration tool for the graphic card? Yast won't show me the card, and sax2 either works alone without showing anything or tries to start a graphical output which mostly fails. Sometimes sax started a blue test screen which looked ok, I confirmed it, but when I said ,,startx' afterwards, it failed again.
There is no text-based X configuration tool (any longer).
Or do you think it's got nothing to do with the graphic card?
Yes, I don't believe it's related to your graphics card/driver. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried the OpenSUSE 11.1 Live-CD and it doesn't work also! Here I get to a graphical login desk, but when I login (,,login root'', no password) I see coloured stripes, then some other mess and then I'm back at the login desk.
I believe that's a different issue. Not really promising though. :-( -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
