It displays either a clickable world map, or a clickable region map. You can click on the world map to display a particular region instead. You can also select the region in the combobox below, yet in that case the world map DOES NOT CHANGE to the region map. Some city from the new region gets selected and the map is zoomed out (which helps when you were zoomed in to another region, but you can't see the change otherwise, of course).
