[Bug 862405] New: Activated lvmetad causes unneeded error messages during initrd run
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=862405 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=862405#c0 Summary: Activated lvmetad causes unneeded error messages during initrd run Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: arvidjaar@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0 Patch for bnc#854413 switched LVM2 to use lvmetad by default. But neither lvmetad nor respective udev rules are added to initrd. This causes scary messages when initrd runs. While cosmetic, such errors are better be avoided, especially in maintenance update for released product. It is hard for a normal user to know that messages are benign. The simplest fix would be to explicitly set use_lvmetad=0 when installing lvm.conf into initrd. No such file or directory. Falling back to internal scanning. I did get that it was some extra causing this and what I disliked: a fourfold warning and that something might get around the luks encrypted lvm. Paranoid? Maybe, but a warning is a warning and you would be surprised on how may users might be "incapacitated" in using google and bugzilla. That said, I would like to understand why there has been an lvm patch (and the error message appeared. Then it was orphaned, I found out, installed the (then) current one of the repos - and the error vanished. Then a new patch came in, and....the error reappeared. Thus: why are non of these patches mentioned in the mailing list of opensuse-update? As they do not appear to be a security patch it is logic that they do not appear in the security list but shouldn't they appear in the update-mailing list? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

To avoid delays on startup associated mostly with udev settle needed before starting VGs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
