[Bug 467760] New: No video with ASPEED AST1000/2000 graphic card
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467760 Summary: No video with ASPEED AST1000/2000 graphic card Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: nice@titanic.nyme.hu QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; hu-HU; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-1.1 Firefox/3.0.5 I've installed 64 bit openSUSE 11.1 with KDE3 onto a Sun Blade x6250 server with the mentioned graphic card. Now my X ceased to work. It worked well in openSUSE 10.3 and SLES, partially worked in openSUSE 11.0, and now doesn't work at all. Beside that openSUSE recognizes the monitor with a 1280x1024 native resolution as an 800x600 monitor, I canot use KDE at all. The graphic card seemed to be OK during the install process, SaX2 correctly handles the display now (although it's very slow), and even a plain X server starts up correctly by simply issuing the command X (although unusually slowly), but kdm cannot start up. I will send some configuration, log and hwinfo files. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE 11.1 onto a machine with an ASPEED AST1000/2000 graphic card 2. restart it in runlevel 5 Actual Results: It virtually falls back to runlevel 3. Expected Results: It should give a KDE login screen. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Meanwhile this has been fixed in kdm. For SLE11 and Factory AFAIK. New ServerTimeout is now 60 seconds. Reassigning, so the KDE team can resolve it as duplicate.
I've discovered that the X.org server in the x86 (32bit) version of openSUSE11.1 and in SLES10 SP2 x86-64 seem to start up similarly slowly, but they may be a bit faster since kdm can always cope with the situation without increasing the ServerTimeout value, whereas x86-64 kdm always gives it up. Some more interesting differences between the 32bit and 64bit versions on this graphic card here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467929 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Today, once I saw a kdm timeout of this kind on an x86 (32 bit) openSUSE 111, thus 32 bit systems are not intact as I thought before. The 32 bit X.org server may be a little bit faster, but it may be somewhere around the limit ;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
