[Bug 467402] New: osc build doesn't
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467402 Summary: osc build doesn't Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: BuildService AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mmeeks@novell.com QAContact: adrian@novell.com Found By: --- So, I checkout a repository, and do: $ osc build Building mingw32-libpng.spec for openSUSE_Factory/i586 **** Getting buildinfo from server **** wrong repo/arch? I get this acute feeling of powerlessness, and deja-vu reading this. It is the moral equivalent of: **** Something went wrong !!! **** ;-) any chance the software could elaborate ? clearly it knows a lot that I don't but it would be nice if it could let on in at least a few ways: What repo / arch values would it accept ? [ presumably it knows the valid combinations by now ]. Why is my repo / arch not good enough ? [ surely this stuff is built in a chroot jail, that should work ~anywhere ? ]. Where do I go to find help on this ? the manual or build --help is not so helpful in this regard. I know - almost certainly the answer is obvious - if you already understand the build service; but ultimately I don't want to learn everything up-front, incremental deepening of knowledge is fine for me :-) and this is one of the key commands in the: check-out patch build test check-in cycle, that could (perhaps) be more helpful :-) [ thanks for putting up with my rant ]. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is is just an idea for what could be the reason. It is a frequent reason. Is "openSUSE_Factory/i586" not a valid repository in your case? What does 'osc repos' say inside that working copy? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467402 User mmeeks@novell.com added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467402#c3 Michael Meeks <mmeeks@novell.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW Info Provider|mmeeks@novell.com | --- Comment #3 from Michael Meeks <mmeeks@novell.com> 2009-01-20 02:35:49 MST --- Nice :-) so - yes, osc repos says something else - and with that tool I managed to find a combination that builds. If we cannot find our repo/arch in the 'osc repos' output - can we be certain that this is the cause ? - if so, we could show / suggest a valid combination (?). Anyhow I did: $ osc repos openSUSE_11.0 x86_64 openSUSE_11.0 i586 which gave me enough of a clue to do: $ osc build openSUSE_11.0 i586 .. build starts ... So - at a minimum can we add: -"wrong repo/arch?" +"wrong repo/arch? - check $ osc repos" or at a mind-blowing maximum :-) "wrong repo/arch ? - valid repos are: ... osc repos output ..." That would at least have stopped me stumbling at the first hurdle (again). Thanks muchly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Finding the correct buildtarget name is too complicted for myself. Another hint besides 'osc repos' is 'osc meta prj' Is there a way to flag one of the build targets in a repo to be the default build target for osc build users who want to save a few brain cycles? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
