[Bug 1201993] New: cryfs is years out of date
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1201993 Bug ID: 1201993 Summary: cryfs is years out of date Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.4 Hardware: All OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: Lance@TheHaverkamps.net QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- The package cryfs that shipped with 15.4 was woefully out of date. The version that replaced the 9.9 version that Leap is using was replaced back in January of 2019. In other words, when 15.4 finalized, version 9.9 had been replaced 3 years earlier. Our version is incompatible with any version since late 2019. Can we please get a backport, at least new enough to be compatible with other operating systems? That would be anything 10.0 or higher. - Filesystems created with CryFS 0.10.x can be mounted without requiring a migration. - Filesystems created with CryFS 0.11.x can be mounted by CryFS 0.10.x if you configure it to use a cipher supported by CryFS 0.10.x, e.g. AES-256-GCM. The new default, XChaCha20-Poly1305, is not supported by CryFS 0.10.x.
Klaas, what is your plan? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So should we fix this for the maintained releases or wait for the next?
Questions like this are above my pay grade, because I'm just a lowly end-user. I've been forced to move my desktops from Leap to Tumbleweed, because there are a handful of small but frequently used tools, like this, some tools no longer compatible with fresher versions in other operating systems, some other tools won't install in Leap at all.
