The RT2870 is made by RaLink. The primary maintainer for RT2X00 is Stanislaw Gruszka <sgruszka@redhat.com>. Unfortunately, bugzilla will not allow me to add him to the Cc list for this bug. I will write him separately. I checked the kernel modifications between 4.12.7 and 4.12.8. None of them made a direct change to the rt2800 driver. If you still have the configuration file for 4.12.7 in /boot, you might look at the differences between config-4.12.7* and config-4.12.8*.
