[Bug 222884] New: installation process lockup
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222884 Summary: installation process lockup Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: grilled-cheese@excite.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I'm trying to install Suse 10.2 beta x86_64 on a dell poweredge 1420 with a 3ware 9500S-4LP using an external USB DVD burner and minimum install cd. Each time I boot from the cd both the graphical and text mode installs fail, reguardless of kernel option quick settings. I've booted the system off a knoppix dvd and performed all the partitioning ahead of time to verify that the drives are all working properly. I've also tried using the install dvd for Suse 10.1 and it has the same problem. Output: ------------------------------------------------------ Assuming text mode install: boot: failsafe Loading linux.........................(not exact on the periods) Loading initrd........................(not exact on the periods) Ready Assuming graphical mode install: select failsafe Loading kernel 0-100% Monitor resolution changes and goes to black indefinatly -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222884 ------- Comment #2 from grilled-cheese@excite.com 2006-11-25 01:01 MST ------- My suspicions I believe are confirmed that it has to do with using an external dvd burner over usb. I made a boot usb stick and it boots fine, then could be used to read the external dvd installation cd's. I'll try to stick a terminal on it and use alt-sysrq 8 for my next update. I'm not sure if that will be more complicated as it happens just after the external initrd is loaded. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
