I will keep the needinfo, though. let me rephrase the summary: "wpa capabilty should be available on a fresh system" or maybe "wpa_supplicant should be part of basic networking pattern" (or base pattern or whatever ) i don't know whether the livecds have a wpa_supplicant package on them, but netinstall does not install it by default and that is a problem. cheers -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

One can view the contents of suse/setup/descr/*.pat.gz files to look for patterns providing a package. For 11.3 that reveals wpa_supplicant is included in rest_cd_* rest_dvd and laptop patterns. Additionally, the x11 pattern includes wpa_supplicant_gui, which probably also requires wpa_supplicant. Coolo should know more. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Based on the info from Comment #7 we can probably identify the problem. Would it be possible to list installed patterns with "zypper se -t pattern" and look in the corresponding suse/setup/descr/*.pat.gz files for the wpa_supplicant ? Is wpa_supplicant available in your repos ? Hint "zypper se -s wpa_supplicant" . -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't think Andreas needs to do that, he probably uses standard 11.3/Factory repository, and i already wrote in c#7 which patterns require wpa_supplicant. I agree with Andreas that this should be part of the default _desktop_ installation (does not make sense for servers). Coolo, should this be fixed in patterns, or is the wireless stuff supposed to be installed based on hardware deps? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I guess this should be extended/changed to say when the hardware has wifi hardware. I do know a _lot_ of people that still use cables and I get enough complains about software installed by default not needed. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
