Based on our use case, the only viable option is to use client certificates. I have attached a patch that looks for an additional parameter in the url when using curl (ZYPP_ARIA2C=0) so that authentication may take place. The patch was built and tested against the stock 11.3 libzypp, but since it's pretty simple it should be able to drop into more recent versions.
