[Bug 253383] New: Installation halts just after loading the installation kernel
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=253383 Summary: Installation halts just after loading the installation kernel Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rompi@post.cz QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Suse 10.2 cannot be installed on notebook Acer TravelMate 245 (detailed configuration in attached hwinfo output) for these reasons: After booting from the installation CD and choosing Install (installation in Text mode, so as to see what went wrong), the installation process halts just after couple of seconds. The last messages on the console are: PCI: Transparent bridge - 0000:00:1e0 PCI: Bus #03 (-#06) is hidden behind transparent bridge #02 (-#02) (try 'pci=assign-busses') ... then something about reporting this to kernel developers PCI: Bus #07 ...dtto... PnP: PnP ACPI init In this point the system halts and nothing goes on. Then I tried 'pci=assign-busses', it halts as well but with the following: PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 0000:02:04.9 PnP: PnP ACPI init After that I tried acpi=off together with pci=assign-busses. It again halts here: PCI: bridge 0000:00:1e:0 IO window: 30000 - 3fff MEM window: e0200000 - e02fffff PREFETCH window: 3000000 - 34fffff NET registered protocol 2 In this moment the installation fails also for 'Installation Safe Settings' together with pci=assign-busses. I would very much appreciate if there is anything I could to fix this problem by myself at least to be able to install Suse 10.2. I have Suse 10.0 installed and running on this computer without any significant problems. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Unfortunately, if your machine wont boot with the instalation media you are out of luck and have to wait for 10.3 as the media wont be corrected. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=253383 ------- Comment #3 from rompi@post.cz 2007-03-11 03:24 MST ------- Unfortunately I've already got the newest BIOS released by the manufacturer. I was perhaps wondering if there are any 'magical' kernel parameters which - being passed through grub - would prevent kernel from doing what it does when it hangs up and what it didn't do in Suse version 10.0. Anyway, I guess I should download Suse 10.3 alpha 1 and see whether the problem is still there... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
