[Bug 808559] New: NetworkManager OpenVPN doesn't update resolv.conf
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=808559 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=808559#c0 Summary: NetworkManager OpenVPN doesn't update resolv.conf Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: thardeck@suse.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de CC: dimstar@opensuse.org Found By: Development Blocker: --- If I established an OpenVPN connection with 12.2 the Networkmanager updated the resolv.conf with the relevant DNS server and removed the vpn entries again after disconnecting. In 12.3 the resolv.conf isn't updated any more after establishing a VPN connection. Because of this most VPNs aren't usable until updating the DNS server manually. I am using the KDE network applet but since I was already using it in 12.2 I think it is a general NetworkManager issue. The latest updates are installed and my system was set up originally with 12.3 Beta 1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the log, I found the openvpn already got DNS from server, and no obvious reason. so do you edit the /etc/resolv.conf by manual, and if you don't mind, could delete the /etc/resolv.conf, then connect to the wired/wireless network again, after that check 'cat /etc/resolv.conf', then connect to the vpn, after successful, check the /etc/resolv.conf again.

I had the VPN-DNS server commented out to easily activate them. So I delete /etc/resolv.conf* and established the network again. Afterwards NM didn't complain anymore about a manual resolv.conf but also still didn't add the VPN DNS server. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I installed openSUSE during the Beta phase and the network had issues there. The later NetworkManager releases did fix the issue for 12.2 upgrade but obviously not for the 12.3 Beta distributions. I just ran `yast2 lan` and it showed that the traditional method was activated although I was using NetworkManager all the time. After switching to Networkmanager in Yast the resolv.conf gets updated correctly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
