[Bug 503495] New: pulsaudio can't be disabled
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=503495 Summary: pulsaudio can't be disabled Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: chuller@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Component Test Description: I tried to get the (after the installation not working) sound on my workstation working some week ago and while doing that I also discovered the item "PulseAudio configuration" in the YaST2 Sound configuration module. As I was not sure what rendered sound on my system unuseable I turned on PulseAudio by checking the checkbox "Enable PulseAudio Support" in YaST2. After some time i realized my browser was repeatedly crashing and the enablement of pulseaudio was one of the suspected reasons for that (the crashes started around the time i played with the sound config) and so I started the YaST2 Sound module once more and disable pulseaudio again. Today (propably one week after disabling pulseaudio using YaST2) I ran a top only to be surprised by the following output: ---------------------------------snip------------------------------------ 32037 chuller 20 0 664m 325m 47m S 100 16.4 6:19.65 firefox 14219 root 20 0 16944 1380 988 R 10 0.1 0:00.06 top 11793 chuller 20 0 279m 6480 4876 S 5 0.3 121:46.35 pulseaudio 12153 root 20 0 517m 215m 11m S 5 10.8 68:49.63 Xorg ---------------------------------snip------------------------------------ Howto repeat: o Enable pulseaudio in the YaST2 sound module o let it run for some time o disable it again with YaST2 o check the running processes => pulseaudio is still eating up CPU time -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It won't be changed, and the right thing to do is to fix PA (which is what's happening). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
